Cold-process soap, handmade and cured six weeks — the questions buyers ask

Cold-process soap is made without external heat, so the bar keeps the natural glycerin that pulls a little softness back into skin. Each bar cures for about six weeks, which is why it stays firm in the dish and lasts longer than a fast-made store bar. Most store soap is milled, fast-cured, and stripped of glycerin for shelf life, leaving a harder, drier bar.

A 4.5oz cold-process bar usually lasts one person four to six weeks in a daily shower, longer if you keep it dry between uses. Because the bar is cured for six weeks before it ships, it starts harder than a fast-cured store bar and dissolves more slowly. A draining soap dish and a break between showers will stretch a single bar past a month for most people.

For sensitive skin, the Oatmeal Milk & Honey Soap is the gentlest bar in the set, made on a coconut, shea, and olive oil base with oat, milk, and honey, and kept low-scent. Cold-process soap keeps the natural glycerin, so skin tends to feel less tight after a shower than with a stripped, detergent-based store bar. If a scent feels like too much, the oatmeal bar is the soft place to start.

Every bar is a cold-process, handmade soap on a coconut, shea, and olive oil base, scented with botanicals and natural extracts, and made in small batches at our warehouse in North Salt Lake, Utah. The bars keep the natural glycerin that commercial soap strips for shelf life. Botanicals shift by bar: oat and honey, eucalyptus and aloe, lemon, lavender, turmeric and orange, black raspberry and vanilla.

Keep the bar dry between showers. Cold-process soap holds up well, but any bar softens if it sits in a puddle. Set it on a draining soap dish or a slatted tray so water runs off, and keep it out of the direct stream so it isn't slowly washing away while you shower. Cutting a larger bar in half and curing the spare in a drawer also helps, since more air time means a firmer bar.

Yes. The two soap collections arrive ready to give in our botanical kraft gift box, with no extra wrapping. A single bar is a small add-on; a six-bar collection is a full gift on its own. The Rest & Renewal collection leans calming and gentle, while the Rise & Recover collection leans wake-up and clarity, so you can match the set to the person.
